The magnetic pendulum system is naturally chaotic and unpredictable. Complexity is evidenced through this psychedelic attractor – a map of the final resting position of the pendulum (over one of three magnets centered in the solid central regions), depending on the initial position (the location on the map). In other words, if you were to pull back the magnetic pendulum to one of the pixels in the graphic, the color of the pixel would indicate the magnet over which the pendulum would eventually come to rest.
